Information for foreign students

International degree-seeking students should consult Degree seeking Info for further information on contacts at Faculties who are going to provide details on procedures of enrolment, required documentation, as well as the cost of a desired study programme.

International exchange students have a variety of possibilities to study at UNS for one or two semesters, since the University of Novi Sad is actively involved in international projects and networks, as well as bilateral agreements with numerous universities from abroad. Students can apply for an exchange between their home university and the University of Novi Sad within open competitions of the formal exchange programmes such as Erasmus Mundus Action 2, Erasmus+ programme, CEEPUS, etc. Within these programmes, international students are exempt from paying tuition fees and receive, if needed, adequate linguistic support at our Faculty of Philosophy and its Center for Serbian as a Foreign Language: http://www.srpski-strani.com/index_eng.php.

All Faculties of the University of Novi Sad are open to international students. The majority of our study programmes are delivered in the Serbian language. However, we draw your attention to certain specificities of the University of Novi Sad that are important for our success in the realisation of student exchanges so far:

Our Faculty of Medicine has study programes in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy running in parallel in the English language. Please visit: http://www.mf.uns.ac.rs/en/index.php;
Our Faculty of Technical Sciences has accredited all its study programmes for teaching in English, whereas our Faculty of Sciences did the same with its PhD programme in Computer Science;

Every learning agreement made by an international student applying for an exchange period at any faculty of the University of Novi Sad will be considered. This means that there is a possibility that the exchange period can be granted to the student through consultations, literature and exams in English.

Strani studenti sa znanjem srpskog jezika, zainteresovani za studiranje na Univerzitetu u Novom Sadu (UNS), na raspolaganju imaju dva osnovna vida mobilnosti:

— Razmenu

Za upis na celokupne studije potrebno je informisati se o procedurama upisa stranih studenata na nivou fakulteta UNS-а. Putem direktnog kontakta sa studentskom službom fakulteta, na kojem se odvija željeni studijski program, dobijaju se detaljne informacije o periodu upisa, potrebnoj dokumentaciji i ceni studiranja.

Za kraće studijske boravke, odnosno razmenu od jednog ili dva semestra, strani studenti na raspolaganju imaju aktuelne konkurse u okviru programa mobilnosti UNS-a. Neophodan uslov je odgovarajući formalni okvir saradnje između njihove matične institucije i UNS-a (npr. učešće u univerzitetskim mrežama poput Erasmus Mundus-a, Ceepus-a ili Campus Europae, ili Erazmus+ među-institucionalni sporazum).

About the University

MODERN UNIVERSITY THAT CONSISTS OF FOURTEEN FACULTIES
IN FOUR HISTORIC CITIES OF CENTRAL EUROPE

The University of Novi Sad, with almost 50,000 students and 5,000 employees, is one of the largest educational and research centers in Central Europe. It belongs to the group of comprehensive universities, which are characterized by providing nearly all fields of science and higher education.

The University of Novi Sad offers around 320 accredited study programs at the level of Bachelor, Master, Specialist and Doctoral studies, carried out at its Faculties and within the University Center for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies and Research. The study programs are modern and up-to-date with the latest developments in science and research. Along with the Faculties and the Center, three Scientific Institutes have a significant role in creating a solid scientific base for the process of continuous modernization of the educational offer.

The University of Novi Sad has a well-developed research infrastructure and great potential for innovation. The Central Library and the Faculty and Institute libraries offer a rich array of publications that cover all relevant scientific areas and enable access to large electronic databases. Resulting from a special agreement on cooperation, researchers, professors and students have access to the Matica Srpska Library, the oldest Serbian scientific and cultural institution, founded in 1826, which offers more than three million publications. The University encompasses around 250 laboratories. Of special significance to the strengthening of innovativeness is the Technology Park of the University of Novi Sad. With the support of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, around 140 start-up and spin-off companies have been founded, mainly in the IT sector, employing young engineers who graduated from the University of Novi Sad. Some of these companies implement projects for large international corporations and have contributed to Novi Sad becoming recognized internationally as a “Software Valley”. Project teams and prominent researchers from the University of Novi Sad have been the recipients of numerous international and national awards for best technical innovations.

There are several accredited center of excellence at the University of Novi Sad. The BioSense Institute, formed within the Faculty of Technical Sciences, was proclaimed by the European Union as one of the thirty research institutions in Europe with the greatest potential in the field of biotechnologies. Its project ANTARES was best ranked in Europe in 2016 within the program Horizon 2020.

Students of the University of Novi Sad achieve impressive results in a number of fields. The students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, which continue the tradition of the famous Yugoslav school of robotics, have been among the best in Europe. They won the 1st place at the European Competition in Robotics EUROBOT 2022 and EUROBOT 2019, held in France, as well as the 2nd and the 3rd places in EUROBOT 2016. The teams of the Faculty of Law have also been among the best in Europe for decades. In 2009, they won the first place in the moot court competition, which was organized by the University of Leiden (The Netherlands) at the International Court of Justice in the Hague. They have accomplished similar success, on a global scale, in 2016. The students of the Academy of Arts and the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education acquire numerous awards at national and international competitions, as well as students from other faculties who achieve excellent results in international sport competions in various disciplines.

The Academic Culture and Art Society of the University of Novi Sad “Sonja Marinković“ is known for its successful performances at festivals in the country and abroad. Its Accordion Orchestra won the 1st prize at the World Music Competition in Innsbruck (Austria) in 2013 and is considered to be one of the best in Europe.

The University of Novi Sad connects people, space and time. Its Faculties and Institutes are situated in four historic cities of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, in the north of the Republic of Serbia: Novi Sad, Subotica, Sombor and Zrenjanin.

The seat of the University is in Novi Sad, in the central campus situated on the bank of the river Danube, in the vicinity of the famous Petrovaradin Fortress, built in the 18th century, and the old city center. The following units are also situated at the same location: Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, Institute of Food Technology, BioSense Institute, and the Department of the Faculty of Economics, whose headquarters is in Subotica. The Faculty of Medicine, Academy of Arts and the Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment are located in other parts of the city for practical purposes. The Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Teachers’ Training Faculty in the Hungarian Language are situated in Subotica. Sombor is the seat of the Faculty of Education, and Zrenjanin is the seat of the Technical Faculty “Mihajlo Pupin”. All these institutions are accredited.

The University of Novi Sad is the seat of the Doctoral School of Mathematics, which connects, on the national level, leading mathematicians from several universities in the Republic of Serbia. From 2016 to 2018, the University of Novi Sad was the headquarters of the Alliance of State Universities of the Republic of Serbia, which comprises all universities founded by the State.

Students of the University of Novi Sad have at their disposal specialized services that provide healthcare, accommodation and food. Medical services are provided by the Institute for Student Healthcare, which comprises units for specialist medical care, counseling and laboratory diagnostics. Accommodation and food is provided by the Student Center. The level of services that are provided is in accordance with the standards adopted in developed European countries.

The University of Novi Sad builds its future hand in hand with other institutions that belong to the common European Higher Education and Research Area, but also collaborates actively with institutions from around the world. The cooperation is based on numerous bilateral and multilateral agreements.
